A paper published in the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery suggests that surgical cautery of selected terminal branches of the external carotid artery may be an effective treatment option for patients with sporadic hemiplegic migraine who have a confirmed arterial component.
The paper discusses the successful treatment of three patients with sporadic hemiplegic migraine by surgical caurtery of the terminal branches of the external carotid artery under conscious sedation.
